Hubble Space Telescope

The telescope in 2009

The Hubble Space Telescope, shortened to the HST or just Hubble is a space telescope in low Earth orbit. It was named after astronomer Edwin Hubble.

It was launched in 1990 on Space Shuttle Discovery mission STS-31, and is still in operation for a total of 33 years. Its successor is the James Webb Space Telescope.

It orbits Earth in a low Earth orbit with an altitude of 537.0km periapsis and 540.9km apoapsis, and an inclination of 28.47°.
